New Homes Bonus Consultation on Local Housing Stock

The government published its New Homes Bonus consultation on Friday 12th November, which is aimed at offering incentives to councils to increase their housing stock.

Steve Turner, head of communication at the Home Builders Federation, said that the proposal is a positive step in addressing the current pressures on property supplies.

Mr Turner said: "Local authorities have seen their budgets cut in the spending review, and this will provide them with a way of generating income and providing the homes that they need. We welcome this, and we now hope that local authorities will buy into the new system."

Earlier this year, the Federation of Master Builders said that extra money from the government for councils in England for new housing would be a welcome boost, but that local authorities must deliver the properties needed to tackle the shortage of available housing.
